Deathwing is Coming—and He Is Literally Going To Kill You

Deathwing is Coming—and He Is Literally Going To Kill You: "I'm reading a blue post from Zarhym right now, and he's giving us a chilling warning of things to come...

Apparently in the period preceding Cataclysm, Deathwing is going to be flying from zone to zone, murdering people. The implication behind the post is that once a day, Deathwing will fly down from the sky in a particular zone, and incinerate every living creature in the area.

Everyone who is killed this way will earn a Feat of Strength for having been killed by Deathwing! Could it be ? We'll see!

Edit: Bibi from MMO-Champion has posted a video of the event!

One of Azeroth’s oldest adversaries will soon tear through the Elemental Plane to reforge the world in flame, but this foe won’t be conducting his reign of terror from the confines of a castle or lair. Deathwing is a destructive force the likes of which adventurers have yet to see in World of Warcraft, and his appetite for devastation can only be satisfied by the shattering of the world. Following his explosive escape from Deepholm, Deathwing will cast a deadly shadow over the people of Azeroth as he wreaks indiscriminate havoc across the land.

Once free to terrorize the world, Deathwing will randomly choose territories in Azeroth to attack each day until his ruinous reign is brought to an end. A blackened sky will be the only warning before every living creature caught in his approach is consumed by his terrible fire. The unfortunate victims of his malice will receive a rare Feat of Strength... as well as a repair bill and corpse run.

When Deathwing returns, you'd best keep your eyes on the skies.

Talent Calculator "Use In-Game" Button

Talent Calculator "Use In-Game" Button: "You can now use our Talent Calculator to apply your talents directly into the game!

All you have to do is click the Use in-game! button on the right side of the talent calc. A dialog box will pop up with a /script command in it. All you have to do is copy the script, switch to WoW, open up a chat box, paste it in and hit enter—the talent pane in game will automatically preview the talents you chose on our site!

Notes
  • Don't forget that you have to hit the "Learn" button in order to actually use the talents—our script just loads a preview!
  • This only works on characters who are currently untalented. If you have some of your talents spent already, the script gets confused.

Give it a try!

WoW Reforging Cataclysm Preview

WoW Reforging Cataclysm Preview: "Reforging was added to the WoW Cataclysm to allow more gear options for players and to reduce the number of unpopular or common items dropped in instances that were left to rot or simply disenchanted and is not in any way intended to be use on all items. It should be with this in mind that players decide to use the reforging process. So for example if an item drops with Spirit instead of the Haste you need, you may still be able to use it as Haste can be added by reforging it. So the next time a piece of gear drops that doesn’t quite fit your ideal stats, don’t pass it up, take a moment to think it over and using the information provided above consider if reforging could make it the perfect piece of gear for you.

Reforgable Stats
* Critical Strike Rating
* Dodge Rating
* Expertise Rating
* Haste Rating
* Hit Rating
* Mastery Rating
* Parry Rating
* Spirit

Non Reforgable Stats
* Agility
* Intellect
* Stamina
* Strength
* You also may not use reforging to add to a stat that is already on the item.

The Reforging Process
Players must visit one of the Reforging NPCs that can be found near the Enchanting trainer. Before you make your way here though, be sure to have the piece of gear you wish to reforge in your bags. Once you arrive at the Arcane Reforger simply right click on the NPC to open the Reforging menu.

Once opened reforging an item is a rather easy process. Simply place the item you wish to reforge in the box in the top left hand corner (next to the text that says “Drag an item here to reforge it). Once an item is in place, two new drop down menus appear. The first allows the player to choose what stat from the item they wish to reduce in place of another. This menu will only list stats that are available for the process and will also display how much the chosen stat will be reduced.

Once the stat is chosen that the player wishes to reduce the next drop down menu will become active. This menu will allow the player to choose a stat to add to the item and will also display how much of that stat will be added. Once chosen players can view the current stats side by side with the pending stat changes just below the drop down menus. The price of the reforging process will also be displayed. Check to be sure the changes appear to be correct and then simply hit the reforge button at the bottom of the screen to complete the reforging process.

Un-Reforging
Since item stats can only be reforged one at a time there may come a point along the way where the player decides they would like to choose another stat to add or they may simply want to restore the item to it’s original state. In order to do this simply take the item back to the Arcane Reforger and once again place the item into the box in the top left corner of the Reforging screen. Once the item is placed all the player need do it simply click the Restore button located at the bottom of the screen next to the Reforge button.

Cataclysm Bonus Model Update - New Tree of Life Form!

Cataclysm Bonus Model Update - New Tree of Life Form!: "We're not going to sleep yet! We've got what appears to be a new model for the druid's Tree of Life form, possibly still a work-in-progress! Since it is no longer a permanent form and is instead a temporary shapeshift, Blizzard has stated that they want to make it more special and exotic. This is definitely a step in... some direction. As a resto druid going on my fifth year, I personally consider this quite a welcome step up from the scraggly ol' treant of the days past. I can only hope one day that Blizzard allows us to choose our shapeshift form skins independently. And hey - maybe we'll get that Moonkin Form update after all!

Get your "HULK SMASH!" shapeshift macros ready, boys and girls. Don't forget to click on a model to check it out in our 3D model viewer!

Note: Flash version of the models are not yet available. You will have to set your Quality preference to Java in order to view these models!

4.0.1: Glyphs, Streaming and Class Changes!

4.0.1: Glyphs, Streaming and Class Changes!: "Blizzard has gone on an announcement spree! Hopefully they are trying to hint 4.0.1 is tomorrow...

The first announcement concerns the changes to glyphs in 4.0.1. As many of you all know, the Glyph system is getting a complete overhaul. Each player will have 3 different kinds of glyphs: Prime Glyphs which increase which give a direct increase to abilities (such as and ), Major Glyphs which augment spells or give them additional utility (like or ), and Minor Glyphs which provide additional convenience or cosmetic changes (like and ).

The next announcement is about the new Streaming Launcher. You'll notice that in the new launcher you will see a bar which changes colours. While the bar is red the game is downloading core game files and you won't be able to play just yet. Yellow means you can play but there will be a lot of downloading while playing, and game play will not be fast. Green means good to go and you should be able to play with very little downloading. Streaming is completely optional and if you wish you can just let the client download everything before playing.

The final announcement is about all the Class Mechanic changes we will see in 4.0.1. Ranging from Death Knight's new dedicated tanking tree to Balance Druid's new Eclipse bar, and even the Warlock's new system.

You can read all this and more in the original announcements after the break!

WoW Reaches 12 Million Subscribers

WoW Reaches 12 Million Subscribers: "You know, just when you think WoW has FINALLY plateaued, they hit another milestone.

I caught an article on CNET this morning referencing a press release from Activision-Blizzard, announcing that they have reached a monumental 12 million subscribers. That's active subscribers, too—the press release defines subscribers as "...individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access."

The CNET article goes on to make some somewhat laughable claims about what this means for the future of WoW (for instance, that if we use Everquest as a guide, we can predict that WoW will release 480 expansions over its lifespan), but the core number is astounding. Even now, when everyone is kind of waiting for Cataclysm to start everything back up again, WoW's subscribers are still increasing.

Included in the page are how many fragments each artifact requires and what kind of keystones you can use to make it.

4.0.1: New Flexible Raid Lockout System

4.0.1: New Flexible Raid Lockout System: "A while ago, Blizzard announced that they would be changing the way raid lockouts work so players would no longer be required to raid the same content multiple times a week to increase progression. After a long wait, Bashiok has announced the new Flexible Raid Lockout System that will be introduced with 4.0.1. At launch, it will only be available for Icecrown Citadel and The Ruby Sanctum In these dungeons, you will only have to kill each boss once on any difficulty level to count toward a completion of the instance. For example, you could kill the first 3 bosses in Icecrown one night on 10-player and then the next night get 25 people together and kill Deathbringer Saurfang and the rest of the bosses. To help coordinate what bosses you have killed there will be a new UI element that shows you what encounters you have already defeated along with a way for raid leaders to link in chat what they have defeated.

You can check out the full announcement and some more examples by Bashiok after the break.

Currency Calculator Online!

Currency Calculator Online!: "We've released a Currency Calculator for Cataclysm!

In our last few blogs (specifically here, here, and here), we've noted the upcoming changes to the currency systems in Cataclysm—old currencies (like Emblems) are being converted, either to gold or to a new currency called Justice Points. Likewise, old PVP tokens are being converted to honor points.

Sound confusing? Never fear! Just hop on over to our brand new Currency Calculator and work it out for yourself. We calculate conversions for Emblems, Badges, honor, arena points, and more! You can find it using the link below, or just select it from the Tools menu!

Emblems to Justice Points Conversion Update

Emblems to Justice Points Conversion Update: "Another short news post, folks. Some week ago Blizzard published the planned conversion rates for the current Wrath emblem currencies to the new Cataclysm points. The post listed Emblems of Triumph and Emblems of Frost as being worth 2.75 Justice Points each. This number has been updated, as well as the 2g per Emblem if you are above the cap. The original blog has been updated to reflect those changes, and Bashiok's post on the official forums has been included below:

We’ve revised the Justice Points conversion rate for Emblems of Triumph and Emblems of Frost. When the upcoming 4.0.1 patch goes live, these emblems will be converted into 11.58 Justice Points (up from the previously planned 2.75 Justice Points per emblem). Justice Points accrued above the soft cap of 4,000 will be converted to gold at a rate of 47.5 silver per point (down from 2 gold per point) when patch 4.0.3 goes live.

The original explanation thread (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=26850245012) and the subsequent conversion math update (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=26850245012&sid=1&pageNo=10#184) have been updated to reflect these changes.
