Cataclysm Preview: The Battle for Gilneas

Cataclysm Preview: The Battle for Gilneas: "Blizzard has released another preview, this time of the new battleground coming in Cataclysm - ! This new 10 vs 10 battleground will take place in the actual city of Gilneas, and feature many familiar objectives. Much like Arathi Basin, you must control one of three capture points that accumulate points - first team to 2000 points is the victor! What's so great about this map that it's actually in the city so there are all kinds of choke points and places you can strategically block the opposite faction from progressing.

You can read the entire preview after the break or on Blizzard's official website!

Cataclysm Changes to Badge/Emblem System

Cataclysm Changes to Badge/Emblem System: "Bashiok just posted a very interesting announcement!

It seems in the upcoming 4.0.1 patch (which is currently on the PTR), all old PvE and PvP tokens will be converted to a new currency system. Badges like Emblem of Frost and Emblem of Triumph will be converted into Justice Points, and all PvE gear that had badge costs will be converted to the new Justice Points system.

On the PvP side, Arena Season 8 will end with 4.0—all Arena, Honor, any leftover Battleground marks, Stone Keeper's Shard and any other PvP tokens will be converted into the new version of Honor Points. Any items that were sold for any of the old PvP points/tokens will also be converted to the Honor Points system.

Both Justice Points and Honor Points will have a soft cap—you can go over the cap on the original conversion, but at a later point in time a hard cap will be introduced in a content patch. Any excess points after the hard cap is introduced will be converted to gold, which will be received via the mail system.

You can read the original post by Bashiok after the break!

Archaeology on Beta Servers (12942)

Archaeology on Beta Servers (12942): "Hey there, it's your local silverly reporter with another batch of very interesting stuff - Archaeology! The brand new shiny secondary profession was added to beta build 12942 (the latest one, if you are reading this fairly recently after it is posted), and I've had the chance to go test it out. Let me tell you, it's absolutely amazing! I may be a little biased, because it's new and different from all the other professions, but I honestly thing it's a very interesting thing in and of itself.

But I do tend to ramble - let me show you a few things about it!

[General Discussion] Next Patch: Background Downloader

[General Discussion]
Next Patch: Background Downloader
: "The next major content patch is coming and sets the stage for Cataclysm with many great new changes, updates, and pure epic fun. We’ve packed it to the brim with so many new things that this patch proves to be the biggest one yet. In order to smooth the way, we have started background downloading the first segment of data for this patch. People who use the Launcher and have background downloading enabled will automatically start receiving the data. Other segments of data are forthcoming over the next few days.

To make sure you are pre-downloading data, make sure to run the launcher and see text that reads “Data for the next patch is available.” You should then see a message indicating when data will be downloaded. Click “Options”, then “Downloader Preferences” to make changes to when you background download data.

*For those having difficulties or want to know more about the Background Downloader, visit the Technical Support forum here- http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=26850275852&sid=1

Sahil's Alliance Gold Making Guide (Tips/Tricks/Hint's and Rundowns)

Sahil's Alliance Gold Making Guide (Tips/Tricks/Hint's and Rundowns): "

Copyright Sahil Tandon (Sufisticated) This guide is NOT to be re-uploaded without my permission!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Alright in this guide that i have spent time creating i will give you my offical secret tips/tricks and tactics. Some of these tips could even be helpful. I will provide information on professions zones etc.

So lets get started. First thing's first.

KNOWING THE AUCTION HOUSE (AH)

I think it's safe to say that the Auction House is our best friend. Everyday hundreds of thousands of transactions are being made via the AH. A report that over 955,000 G is being traded each day via the AH (Across all realms). But enough of that lets get started.

A Tactic for the Auction House for you to remember is that BEFORE you sell search whatever your selling..then sell it cheaper.

EXAMPLE: Im selling a stack of copper bars for 10G. Someone else is selling it for 9G 50S. What do you do? Sell your stack for 9G 48S! Make it cheaper than other peoples auctions. Then they'll come and buy your stuff!

PROFESSIONS COME IN HANDY!

My point exactly. Professions are..arghhhh how to explain? They give so much gold.

EXAMPLE: The cooking profession makes lot's of gold. Reason being? Warriors are always exploring, fighting mobs. But alas they can't heal! Thats when cooking kicks in. These warriors (like myself) are always on the go. They'll play anything for a good stack of food on the AH. However i STRONGLY reccomend you take up Alchemy instead of cooking.

A FEW RECCOMENDED PROFESSIONS

These are MY thoughts and tips on the professions that make the most amount of gold...too bad you can only select two

ALCHEMY: Create potions to increase stats and skills. Tanks need it. They'll pretty much pay anything if it's on the auction house. Whats more to be said?

HERBALISTS: Gathering herbs may seem boring. But it is a strong component required for people who do alchemy. They need it to train..increase there skills and most of all...Create potions! If its on the AH its on a roll for gold.

MINING: Probably the godfather of gold making professions. Mining makes the most gold and is ALWAYS sold on the AH for a HUGE PRICE. I remember my lvl 15 had 300g because we had stacks of tin and silver bars and sold it to the AH. And blacksmiths also need people to mine bars!

SKINNING: Ahh nothing like grabbing a knife..peeling the skin from a beast..and selling it to the AH. But why? Leatherworks need it. They create bags and turbans and wigs!! God knows what else they make but they'll pay great!

INSTANCES: Using the Dungon Finder and going through instances is quite rewarding. You can get epic hear and lots of gold. This is highly reccomended.

EXTRA TIPS -------FINAL EXTRA BONUS MINI IN MINI GUIDE

GOLD MAKING SPOTS FOR MINING (beginners)

As you were reading this guide you SHOULD have made Mining your major profession. It is IMPORTANT and one of the best ways for gold making as mentioned earlier. Below are overviews for good mining hotspots (Sorry Alliance only! Were working on the Horde)

Westfall: Great place for miners who are interested it Copper Ore! And down on the beach-side if your lucky you may find traces of SILVER ORE. Tin ore can also be found in Westfall normally in the areas containing mountains aswell as the Dead-mines.

Duskwood. Once again Duskwood is a westfall clone just with more chance with Copper and Less chance with tin. Also contains SILVER ore.

Redridge Mountains: If it contains mountains then it contains tin! What more's to be said?

Arathi Highlands: Yadda Yadda Yadda...Blah blah blah...Arathi is rich in Silver ore/Tin ore.

Stranglethorn Vale: Rich in Gold and basically contains a lot of Mithral and silver and a lot of RARE ore!

Now I have NOT added all the mining hotspots but you should have a feel on mining locations. And this is a MUST!! MUST!!! MUST!!!!!! website that you should view as it helps you...A LOT!

Cataclysm Beta (Build 12857): New Glyph UI + Eclipse Bar Redesign

Cataclysm Beta (Build 12857): New Glyph UI + Eclipse Bar Redesign: "You may have remembered hearing that Glyphs were changing from consumable items to learnable skills. Last build we saw the makings of that—now, when you use a glyph, it goes into your general tab of the spellbook, ready to be used whenever you want to place it. Well in this latest build Blizzard has taken it a step futher and given the glyphs tab of your talent frame a complete makeover!

First off they've vastly increased the size of the frame—it's now the same size as the talent frame. You now have NINE glyphs to select: 3 Prime, 3 Major, and 3 Minor. On the right side of the panel you will have a list of all learned and unlearned glyphs. Blizzard was also kind enough to add some advanced glyph searching! No need to scroll down the list forever trying to find that one pesky glyph to switch in.

Screenshots

Update: Ghostcrawler has made a post on glyphs in Cataclysm that is well worth the read!

Some of those glyphs don't look correct. Colossus Smash is a major. Hamstring doesn't do that anymore. Shield Wall provides 60% damage reduction but on a longer cooldown. That's just off the top of my head.

Prime glyphs aren't going to be exciting in a "change up your rotation" style. We want primes to be unambiguous dps (etc.) increases so we figured they might as well be easy to understand rather than something so convoluted that everyone would just go to a fansite to see which 3 to pick.

The majors are more interesting, because they are either not dps increases at all, or dps increases in ways that are tricky to math out. We think players will debate and geek out more about which majors to use, and with the new glyph design, swapping them out once in awhile isn't very painful.

Minors are basically convenience or fun.

We don't want glyphs to change rotations. We feel that was a mistake in LK. Talents should affect your rotations, and glyphs should just provide a little bit of customization and power. We fixed some class problems with glyphs in LK, which was an easy solution to do at the time, but now is the time to undo all of that and let the classes stand on their own without the glyphs.

The Eclipse Bar used by Balance Druids has also received a (much needed in my opinion) makeover. It now lights up up when you hit an eclipse so you know when to switch sides. You can check out the screenshots of it in action below!

Seriously!" - WELL WE'VE GOT ARMADILLOS NOW. I bet these little buggers roll around all sorts of awesomely. I wonder which one is going to be our new companion pet? With all these domestic critters getting added, maybe we'll get our moose just yet!

We've got pretty pictures of all the model sets that you guys can click to view the armor on the race / gender of your choice in our 3D Model Viewer, so no complaining about any bias in selection of races, okay? Check out the full blog to view 'em all!

Cataclysm Mages - Thoughts, Projections, and Assumptions

Cataclysm Mages - Thoughts, Projections, and Assumptions: "

Introduction

This 'guide' will explain the upcoming mage changes in cataclysm as well as anything I have figured out or have assumed from some research. Enjoy!

Changes

New Spells:

Flame Orb (81): Similarly to Taldaram's Conjure Flame, Mages will be able to conjure a ball of flame that flies in a straight line. Enemies near the path of the ball will take damage. It is possible that there will be a Fire talent that makes the ball explode when it reaches its destination.

Curtain of Frost (83)Creates a 30-yard wide curtain of frost somewhere in front of the caster. The curtain will slow down enemies that try to trespass it, and will do damage on them

Time Warp (85)Grants a passive haste buff to party and raid members. The buff will be similar to Bloodlust/Heroism and will be exclusive with either one, sharing the Sated/Exhaustion debuff. Time Warp will also give the Mage a temporary movement speed boost, which can still be gained while Sated or Exhaustion.

Thoughts:

Personally i love these new spells, they add a new role for mages with the Time Warp (85) spell, as well as adding AoE a little more interesting rather than just blizzard spamming.

Flame Orb (81) adds a great new AoE because in those instances when mobs must be apart from each other we can still hit everything by just getting in line with them.

Curtain of Frost (83) just made mages a little more deadly in PvP... not only do we have frost spells to slow people down with this spell we can cast it and blink away and nuke that fool as he/she is stuck running through that, absolutely awesome for kiting especially because we dont have to channel it. That mixed with Time Warp (85) makes us probably the best class for PvP (although i have to see the full arena rules for cataclysm to kow if this spell is even allowed).

Specs:

With the specs becoming smaller and simpler it makes for easier spec making, personally i think fire will become the new raid dps as arcane seems to have drifted more into a pvp style spec and frost still maintains its leveling potential. With this spec Here you spec into many talents that cause damage over time and cause you to increase your haste for quicker attacks while not being forced to add uselss talent points into things just so you can reach a lower teir in the spec, however looking into the arcane tree into a spec like this you see were forced to spec into things like Improved Counterspell and Prismatic Cloak just so you can reach the bottom of the teir, you can also see that many of the universally good points are at the top thus stating that other specs should possibly be used. as well as none of the other points in the other trees are good for the arcane tree which forces us to put it into something that doesn't give us much benefit.

Now if you look into the frost spec you'll see a lot of things that are useful for leveling but not much for raiding or instances ... many slow effects, survivability, decreased cool downs, and not many damage increases or raid buffs clearly making this the leveling spec.

Mechanics Changes:

Arcane Missiles is being redesigned to become a proc-based spell. Whenever the Mage does damage with any spell, there is a chance for Arcane Missiles to become available, similar to how the Warrior’s Overpower works. The damage and Mana cost of this spell will be reworked to make it very desirable to use when available. This change should make gameplay more dynamic for the Mage, particularly at low levels.

Mages will be unable to conjure food and water until level 38, with Conjure Refreshment you will be able to summon food that restores both health and mana.

Both of these things don't exactly effect the higher level mages but rather the lower level ones because if i am right and arcane is not the desired raiding spec then Arcane missiles become a useless spell, also the food conjuring doesn't effect us at all unless we are below level 38... so to all you wanna be mages i suggest you level up past 38 before you get gypped into buying your own food and water like those other classes Sticking out tongue

PvP:

Mages have become much more desirable now because of our new skills, Damage output, and new mechanics. I believe arcane is the new PvP spec because of these reasons:

1. The spec clearly screams pvp with its:Nether Vortex

, Improved Blink, Improved Polymorph, Incanter's Absorption, Prismatic Cloak, and Improved counter Spell. Which makes the spec look somewhat like this depending on what the kiting abilities are like.

The Arcane missile mechanic also adds to it because it sounds like any damage caused could trigger arcane missiles.

The new spells also allow for some nice kiting strategies like mixing imp Polymorph with imp blink and curtain of frost plus Nether vortex adds for some really nice and easy kiting 1v1 or even 2v1 if you just poly one guy and focus down the other not to mention that fact that you'll have partner(s). And to top it all off Time Warp makes things that much easier with the imp haste and allows you to nuke even quicker!

I hope you enjoyed my thoughts assumptions and new tactics for cataclysm mages, leave your thoughts on mages or this guide in a comment if you want.

Cataclysm: Zul'Gurub Gone!

Cataclysm: Zul'Gurub Gone!: "Sad news for a lot of people, Valnoth has just made a post on the official forums stating Zul'Gurub will be removed in Cataclysm. No word yet on if Swift Zulian Tiger or Swift Razzashi Raptor will be moved elsewhere, but we can only hope!

Zul'Gurub is gone as a raid instance come Cataclysm.
