Blizzard Launching "War Games": PvP Practice Matches

Blizzard Launching "War Games": PvP Practice Matches: "Blizzard is implementing a War Game system—a system broadly similar to the old Arena skirmish system.

Basically, with a simple text command, you can now start a "War Game" against another group in a battleground, or another arena team, the matches don't actually count for achievements or currency rewards, and you can only initiate them against other people on your realm—but it's a great way to test out new players in PvP, or hold grudge matches against old enemies.

The new system opens up with Arena Season 9!

The full blue post is after the break, complete with a Q&A.

Grim Batol Instance Guide

Grim Batol Instance Guide: "
Grim Batol is a mountain fortress located in the eastern Wetlands. It has great walls and spires that reach toward a steel-gray sky, but the stronghold’s bulk is underground. Founded by Wildhammer dwarves and later captured by orcs, a flight of red dragons now command Grim Batol. The dragons guard a secret power within the fortress and let no one near.

Blackrock Caverns Instance Guide

Blackrock Caverns Instance Guide: "
Blackrock Caverns is the first of two new wings in Blackrock Spire introduced in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. It is designed as a 5-man instance for players level 80 to 81. It is a series of tunnels created by Deathwing from the Twilight Highlands to Blackrock Mountain. Here the twisted Twilight's Hammer clan is transporting their supplies back and forth from the highlands and practicing the mysterious dark arts that transform the zealots into dragonspawn. The forces here are led by the Ascendant Lord Obsidius.

Players will need to be level 80 and find the entrance to Blackrock Caverns in order to use the Dungeon Finder for the instance. The entrance is just off of the main ring in Blackrock Mountain on the non-jumping path to Blackrock Spire. Head to the eastern side of the ring to see the summoning stone for Blackrock Spire and follow the path. As it turns north there is a blockade blocking the way. Look right to see the instance line.

WoW-Pro Leveling Addon - How the launch went

WoW-Pro Leveling Addon - How the launch went: "
The Cataclysm launch went very well. I dinged 84 last night with my character, and I did that while:
  • Editing mistakes I saw in the leveling addon files
  • Sleeping and eating (granted, I don't sleep much) normally!
  • Only took the morning off on tuesday, which means I almost did normal work hours since the release and still managed to hit level 84 last night around midnight in Uldum while taking notes and updating the leveling guides as I went.
This just shows how good our leveling addon is! It allows for such fast leveling, without ever having any downtime being stuck on a quest. I'll hit level 85 tonight easily, while taking notes to update the Twilight Highlands guide ;)

And it keeps getting better, as our team of guide writers and testers go through our guides several times, we spot mistakes or things that could be optimized, and we improve them!

Cataclysm is out since only 3 days, and we already got tons of updates, which will be implemented in the next Addon Update (coming soon!).

Meanwhile, if you can't wait and want the latest versions, I've uploaded the new Uldum file, which I just re-optimized myself. It should be near perfect now:

Download: WoW-Pro Leveling Addon - Updated Uldum File

And of course, our Uldum Leveling Guide gets you the following zone achievements:

About addon leveling speed: I honestly don't think there can be a faster way to level up. I was level 82 in about 7 hours of /play after the launch, and that's with:

  • A very poorly equipped character which I hadn't played since he hit level 80 back then in WotLK!
  • All the overcrowding and fighting over the same NPCs with other players. I even lost 20 minutes on a certain quest in Mount Hyjal, it was hell.
  • I was taking notes as I went! Wasting time alt-tabbing between the game and my notepad.
So just imagine the kind of leveling speed you can get without all those hinderances ;)

All in all, I'm extremely happy and impressed with the our Leveling Addon, and I can't wait to do a speed run with a new character once it's all finished.

I'll post my results of course once I'm there, so stay tuned (list of our feeds, twitter, facebook, newsletter, etc) for more leveling guides and addon updates!

Archaeology 1-525 Powerleveling Guide

Archaeology 1-525 Powerleveling Guide: "
Leveling Archaeology to 525 is very straight forward but brace yourself as it will take time and plenty of patience. So let's get started... here is a simple guide on how to powerlevel your Archaeology from 1 to 525 which will be updated as the game progresses.
Levels 1-100
To start off, head to your faction's Archaeology trainer in either Stormwind or Orgrimmar (there's also one in Dalaran). You will need to be at least level 20 to get started. Now you've gained two abilities, Survey and Archaeology. For the first 100 levels we'll only use Survey and avoid Archaeology. Let's start by heading to our first digsite. To find one, open up your map and look for shovel icons.

Once you arrive at a digsite, use your Survey ability and your character will survey the site and determine the location and distance the artifact is away from your current location. The scope will point in the direction of the artifact and the color of the light will tell you if it's very close (green), near by (yellow) or far away (red).

The moment you find and receive the artifact you will gain one level. You can survey each digsite 3 times and you will always have 4 digsites available per continent. Continue surveying until level 100. Try to avoid completing artifacts until you've reached level 100 since you will no longer be able to level up by surveying after level 100.
Levels 100-525
Once you're level 100, you're done leveling by finding artifacts (although you'll need finding artifacts). Now you should complete your artifacts by solving them. You can do this by using your Archaeology ability and selecting 'Solve' where you have enough artifacts to do so. This will give you 5 levels per completed artifact as well as a novelty item, often worth a few silver or gold to a vendor. As you reach higher levels and solve better artifacts there are novelty items, Bind on Equip and even Bind on Account items available from Archaeology.

Guild Achievements No Longer Reward Guild XP

Guild Achievements No Longer Reward Guild XP: "Nethaera posted on the official forums a little while ago to let us know that guild achievements no longer reward guild experience.

This is a pretty significant nerf, since guild experience is capped on a daily basis—and up until recently, guild achievements were able to reward experience bonuses above and beyond the daily cap.

It looks like the result of this was that guilds were leveling a lot faster than Blizzard intended. See the the full post after the break.

Remember: if you have any questions about the Guild Advancement system, you can find our complete guide here!

Cataclysm Launch Event Gallery

Cataclysm Launch Event Gallery: "So I'm home from the Cataclysm Launch Event!

it was a great time last night, lots of people there. One person said there were over 9000—but I realized later that may have been a joke. I even saw a lot of people who I had seen two years ago at the Wrath release event—I even ran into John Finch, the guy who was first in line last year. He said he'd arrived 48 hours before, and was still only 20th in line.

Once again, I want to thank Blizzard for NOT being the kind of company who tries to create buzz by not having enough copies of the game at launch. I wasn't there until about 7pm, and I still got a Collector's Edition. :)

This whole process has been kind of nostalgic for me, because for those of you who've been with us for a while, you may know that our discussion and picture gallery of the original Wrath launch event two years ago was actually our very first set of blog posts. So with that in mind, I leave you now as I left you then, with the most important part of the whole process:

I've got my copy. Where's yours?

Check after the break for photos from the event!

Farming Savage Leather & Target Mobs

Farming Savage Leather & Target Mobs: "
Savage Leather and Deepsea Scales, which are both very widely used mats for crafting Cataclysm's Leatherworking items. Well in Wetlands / Menethil Harbour, near the docks is several sharks named Harbor Shredfin of level 22 range which you can skin and apparently they have semi decent droprate while skinning for Savage Leather and Deepsea Scales.

Another even better spot if you bring along a skinner friend is in Eastern Plaguelands killing and skinning Landlocked Grouper. I went and tested out this spot with a friend, we noticed this spot has a forced spawn between the 2 sides of the bridge. So there is ALWAYS mobs to kill almost instantaneously.

As mentioned, this spot actually works a lot faster then the Menethil Harbour spot IF you have a skinner friend doing the other side of the bridge. You will Always have a mob in range to kill and few others to skin. Infact we were having problems managing to actually skin all the mobs we killed.

Other notable mobs that can be skinned for Savage Leather are:

Wetlands [Skinning Skill required: 105 - 115]

Thousand Needles [Skinning Skill required: 200 - 215]

Cataclysm: New Dungeons & Raids Preview

Cataclysm: New Dungeons & Raids Preview: "We recently previewed the upcoming Cataclysm zones, where we showed off the awesome new zones players will be able to experience in less than a week. We've not only got awesome zones such as Uldum, Kezan and Vashj'ir to look forward to, but many of these new zones feature new dungeons and raids as well! Cataclysm will ship with eight new dungeons, two upgraded Heroic versions of classic dungeons, and four new raids (with more being released in later patches). These dungeons will (of course) feature both normal and heroic versions, with raid encounters offering unlockable encounter-specific difficulty toggling. These raids will support the Flexible Lock System (detailed here, as well as in our Cataclysm Guide), allowing players to adjust raid sizing as necessary.

We've already seen quite a bit of new dungeon loot courtesy of the Cataclysm Beta, and there are many new items which can be purchased from vendors (including Tier 11 pieces!) using the new Justice Points and Valor Points currencies. Thankfully, Blizzard gave us a peek at how many points we can plan on earning in these upcoming dungeons and raids!

Raids

Pull Mobs Up to 150 Yards Away Exploit

Pull Mobs Up to 150 Yards Away Exploit: "
This is a very useful and new exploit whereby you can pull mobs or bosses from 10 yards to a massive 150 yards away. What is need is the quest item [Enohar's Explosive Arrow] provided for the newly created quest (sadly Alliance only) Curtail the Darktail from Enohar Thunderbrew in Blasted Lands can be used on any target, off the GCD.

- Has a .5 second cast time, so it cannot be used during other casts, but it can be used while moving. Has a minimum range of 15 yards, and maximum of 150.
- Provides no threat, or damage. Does not tag mobs.
- Places you and the target in combat.
- Does not require line of sight.
- Will flag you for pvp if using against a pvp target.

Some useful uses I have found after some testing:
- Pull anything from farther than the range of your skills. Does not tag the mob, however - you must still use a typical attack that will tag the mob for loot/credit. As it does not require line of site, I have pulled mobs and bosses from around corners in various dungeons.
- Keep players in combat, so they cannot stealth or use mounts.
- Kite mobs without damaging them.

More Hotfixes, or "Why Gamon Will Wreck You": "There's a new round of hotfixes going up on live servers, and this batch includes yet another round of buffs to Gamon!

  • It is no longer possible to bypass Fatigue beyond the borders of Dun Morogh (looking at you here, death knights).

Paladins
  • Hammer of the Righteous now consistently hits all nearby targets, including those behind the paladin.
  • Hammer of the Righteous should now function correctly if used right as an auto-attack begins.

  • Margol the Rager in Searing Gorge now respawns in a much more reasonable timeframe.
  • Plainstriders in Northern Barrens now respawn considerably faster to meet the demand of their demise.

WoW-Pro Dungeons Addon

WoW-Pro Dungeons Addon: "

Introduction

Hello all!

I am working on a new module for the WoW-Pro addon called WoW-Pro Dungeons, that should provide the framework for guides and information related to dungeons in World of Warcraft. Right now, the WoW-Pro Dungeons is still in its early alpha stage, but I decided to create this page to explain my own design ideas and to hear feedback from the community (especially those that are in the beta, since I'm not).

That way, if we decide to change something, I won't waste too much programming time. Smiling

How To Find Cataclysm Instance Entrances

How To Find Cataclysm Instance Entrances: "The other night I stumbled upon the work of the talented regisfrost on Reddit, where he had posted an assortment of nicely made and extremely informative images that I guarantee will be of value to many players in preparation for the Cataclysm! Remember, come Cataclysm, you will not be able to queue for one of the new dungeons via the Dungeon Finder unless you have first discovered its entrance! Thankfully, Blizzard has assured us that the normal leveling path will lead you to discovering most of these dungeons without much effort, but there's definitely no such thing as too much information! Enjoy!

There is a little caveat to the way paid services work for goblins and worgen: either of them wishing to change races or factions cannot be in either Gilneas or Lost Isles. There is no restrictions on on players wishing to change to goblins or worgen.

With two new playable races just on the horizon, many players have been asking when they'll be able to convert their existing characters into goblins or worgen. Paid faction and race changes will be available immediately once Cataclysm is released. Realm First achievements for leveling any class to 85 will be available in Cataclysm. However there will be no Realm First achievements associated with leveling characters of a specific race.

There will be a slight change to the way paid services work for goblins and worgen. Goblin and worgen characters wishing to change race or faction cannot be in Lost Isles or Gilneas; they must be elsewhere to initiate the process. There are no restrictions on race/faction change to goblin or worgen.

You can learn more about our promotions and paid services here.

Elemental Invasion Phase 2 is Here!

Elemental Invasion Phase 2 is Here!: "Seems sometime this morning Blizzard flipped the switch and began Phase 2 of the Elemental Invasion! While helping the Earthen Ring fight against the elementals, you will find several new quests in both Ironforge and Orgrimmar.

Phase 2: November 8 - November ???

  • Tablets of the Earth / Tablets of Fire
    Go to the harbor / zeppelin tower and talk to the quest NPC there. A short event will begin, where you - imbued with the powers of the Tablets - need to use your new abilities to fight various elemental attackers off. Remember, use water to counter fire, air to counter earth, and fire to counter water. After the event is over loot the tablets and turn the quest in.
  • Subduing the Elements / Subduing the Elements
    Open the Earthen Ring Supplies and loot Elemental Sapta & Cleansing Totem. Drinking the Septa will allow you to see the spirits, and using the totem near them will subdue them. You can find the Agitated Earth / Fire Spirits all over Ironforge and Orgrimmar.

You can check out all the info on this event in our Cataclysm Guide!

[General Discussion] Wait garrosh is warchief already??

[General Discussion]
Wait garrosh is warchief already??
: "

Q u o t e:
so i was handing in the quest [Alert Our Leaders] and when you talk to Garrosh it says

<The warchief listens as you tell of your investigation into the Twilight's Hammer plot to destroy Orgrimmar>

You are a dutiful member.. bla bla bla....

so does this mean he is the warchief already?

Garrosh has recently been handed the position. I'd say more, but I don't want to spoiler things in game. It might be a good idea to hang out in Grommash Hold for a bit just to listen in on what the leaders have been discussing. In addition, you may want to check out the new novel that was released (written by Christie Golden) The Shattering: A Prelude to Cataclysm to learn even more (if you are interested in doing so.)"

The Days Before Cataclysm

The Days Before Cataclysm: "I've been itching to post a blog about the different events that will take place in the 5-6 weeks before the release of Cataclysm, but Zarhym beat me to it! Since I can't really shed any more light than he did, I will summarize his post and then just give you the blue. Basically the plan from here until December 7 is:
  • Patch 4.0.1: The Twilight's Cult & The Elemental Invasion events take place.
  • Patch 4.0.3: All of the Cataclysm data is being introduced to your installation folder, no changes to the actual in-game experience (other than some balance issues possibly).
  • Patch 4.0.3a (a.k.a. The Shattering): Deathwing emerges from Deepholm, and boy, is he mad! Azeroth shatters and takes on the shape all those Cataclysm maps and guides have been teasing you with.
  • Cataclysm: Comes out on December 7, and introduces the 80-85 zones and skills, 450-525 professions, Archaeology, goblins & worgen (and everything else not yet introduced).

Zarhym's post is after the break!

It's your job to fight back and eventually gain a rare feat of strength - Tripping the Rifts! Along with the invasions the Twilight Cultists are now stirring up trouble in most of the major cities, specifically Stormwind and Orgrimmar.

You can check out our guide on the new events plus some other invasion info in our Cataclysm Guide!

Update: I've gone through the event and it seems it's only half enabled at this point, quests like Subduing the Elements and quests from Show Me Your Papers and onwards are not yet enabled.

Deathwing is Coming—and He Is Literally Going To Kill You

Deathwing is Coming—and He Is Literally Going To Kill You: "I'm reading a blue post from Zarhym right now, and he's giving us a chilling warning of things to come...

Apparently in the period preceding Cataclysm, Deathwing is going to be flying from zone to zone, murdering people. The implication behind the post is that once a day, Deathwing will fly down from the sky in a particular zone, and incinerate every living creature in the area.

Everyone who is killed this way will earn a Feat of Strength for having been killed by Deathwing! Could it be ? We'll see!

Edit: Bibi from MMO-Champion has posted a video of the event!

One of Azeroth’s oldest adversaries will soon tear through the Elemental Plane to reforge the world in flame, but this foe won’t be conducting his reign of terror from the confines of a castle or lair. Deathwing is a destructive force the likes of which adventurers have yet to see in World of Warcraft, and his appetite for devastation can only be satisfied by the shattering of the world. Following his explosive escape from Deepholm, Deathwing will cast a deadly shadow over the people of Azeroth as he wreaks indiscriminate havoc across the land.

Once free to terrorize the world, Deathwing will randomly choose territories in Azeroth to attack each day until his ruinous reign is brought to an end. A blackened sky will be the only warning before every living creature caught in his approach is consumed by his terrible fire. The unfortunate victims of his malice will receive a rare Feat of Strength... as well as a repair bill and corpse run.

When Deathwing returns, you'd best keep your eyes on the skies.

Talent Calculator "Use In-Game" Button

Talent Calculator "Use In-Game" Button: "You can now use our Talent Calculator to apply your talents directly into the game!

All you have to do is click the Use in-game! button on the right side of the talent calc. A dialog box will pop up with a /script command in it. All you have to do is copy the script, switch to WoW, open up a chat box, paste it in and hit enter—the talent pane in game will automatically preview the talents you chose on our site!

Notes
  • Don't forget that you have to hit the "Learn" button in order to actually use the talents—our script just loads a preview!
  • This only works on characters who are currently untalented. If you have some of your talents spent already, the script gets confused.

Give it a try!

WoW Reforging Cataclysm Preview

WoW Reforging Cataclysm Preview: "Reforging was added to the WoW Cataclysm to allow more gear options for players and to reduce the number of unpopular or common items dropped in instances that were left to rot or simply disenchanted and is not in any way intended to be use on all items. It should be with this in mind that players decide to use the reforging process. So for example if an item drops with Spirit instead of the Haste you need, you may still be able to use it as Haste can be added by reforging it. So the next time a piece of gear drops that doesn’t quite fit your ideal stats, don’t pass it up, take a moment to think it over and using the information provided above consider if reforging could make it the perfect piece of gear for you.

Reforgable Stats
* Critical Strike Rating
* Dodge Rating
* Expertise Rating
* Haste Rating
* Hit Rating
* Mastery Rating
* Parry Rating
* Spirit

Non Reforgable Stats
* Agility
* Intellect
* Stamina
* Strength
* You also may not use reforging to add to a stat that is already on the item.

The Reforging Process
Players must visit one of the Reforging NPCs that can be found near the Enchanting trainer. Before you make your way here though, be sure to have the piece of gear you wish to reforge in your bags. Once you arrive at the Arcane Reforger simply right click on the NPC to open the Reforging menu.

Once opened reforging an item is a rather easy process. Simply place the item you wish to reforge in the box in the top left hand corner (next to the text that says “Drag an item here to reforge it). Once an item is in place, two new drop down menus appear. The first allows the player to choose what stat from the item they wish to reduce in place of another. This menu will only list stats that are available for the process and will also display how much the chosen stat will be reduced.

Once the stat is chosen that the player wishes to reduce the next drop down menu will become active. This menu will allow the player to choose a stat to add to the item and will also display how much of that stat will be added. Once chosen players can view the current stats side by side with the pending stat changes just below the drop down menus. The price of the reforging process will also be displayed. Check to be sure the changes appear to be correct and then simply hit the reforge button at the bottom of the screen to complete the reforging process.

Un-Reforging
Since item stats can only be reforged one at a time there may come a point along the way where the player decides they would like to choose another stat to add or they may simply want to restore the item to it’s original state. In order to do this simply take the item back to the Arcane Reforger and once again place the item into the box in the top left corner of the Reforging screen. Once the item is placed all the player need do it simply click the Restore button located at the bottom of the screen next to the Reforge button.
