Blizzard Launching "War Games": PvP Practice Matches

Blizzard Launching "War Games": PvP Practice Matches: "Blizzard is implementing a War Game system—a system broadly similar to the old Arena skirmish system.

Basically, with a simple text command, you can now start a "War Game" against another group in a battleground, or another arena team, the matches don't actually count for achievements or currency rewards, and you can only initiate them against other people on your realm—but it's a great way to test out new players in PvP, or hold grudge matches against old enemies.

The new system opens up with Arena Season 9!

The full blue post is after the break, complete with a Q&A.

Grim Batol Instance Guide

Grim Batol Instance Guide: "
Grim Batol is a mountain fortress located in the eastern Wetlands. It has great walls and spires that reach toward a steel-gray sky, but the stronghold’s bulk is underground. Founded by Wildhammer dwarves and later captured by orcs, a flight of red dragons now command Grim Batol. The dragons guard a secret power within the fortress and let no one near.

Blackrock Caverns Instance Guide

Blackrock Caverns Instance Guide: "
Blackrock Caverns is the first of two new wings in Blackrock Spire introduced in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. It is designed as a 5-man instance for players level 80 to 81. It is a series of tunnels created by Deathwing from the Twilight Highlands to Blackrock Mountain. Here the twisted Twilight's Hammer clan is transporting their supplies back and forth from the highlands and practicing the mysterious dark arts that transform the zealots into dragonspawn. The forces here are led by the Ascendant Lord Obsidius.

Players will need to be level 80 and find the entrance to Blackrock Caverns in order to use the Dungeon Finder for the instance. The entrance is just off of the main ring in Blackrock Mountain on the non-jumping path to Blackrock Spire. Head to the eastern side of the ring to see the summoning stone for Blackrock Spire and follow the path. As it turns north there is a blockade blocking the way. Look right to see the instance line.

WoW-Pro Leveling Addon - How the launch went

WoW-Pro Leveling Addon - How the launch went: "
The Cataclysm launch went very well. I dinged 84 last night with my character, and I did that while:
  • Editing mistakes I saw in the leveling addon files
  • Sleeping and eating (granted, I don't sleep much) normally!
  • Only took the morning off on tuesday, which means I almost did normal work hours since the release and still managed to hit level 84 last night around midnight in Uldum while taking notes and updating the leveling guides as I went.
This just shows how good our leveling addon is! It allows for such fast leveling, without ever having any downtime being stuck on a quest. I'll hit level 85 tonight easily, while taking notes to update the Twilight Highlands guide ;)

And it keeps getting better, as our team of guide writers and testers go through our guides several times, we spot mistakes or things that could be optimized, and we improve them!

Cataclysm is out since only 3 days, and we already got tons of updates, which will be implemented in the next Addon Update (coming soon!).

Meanwhile, if you can't wait and want the latest versions, I've uploaded the new Uldum file, which I just re-optimized myself. It should be near perfect now:

Download: WoW-Pro Leveling Addon - Updated Uldum File

And of course, our Uldum Leveling Guide gets you the following zone achievements:

About addon leveling speed: I honestly don't think there can be a faster way to level up. I was level 82 in about 7 hours of /play after the launch, and that's with:

  • A very poorly equipped character which I hadn't played since he hit level 80 back then in WotLK!
  • All the overcrowding and fighting over the same NPCs with other players. I even lost 20 minutes on a certain quest in Mount Hyjal, it was hell.
  • I was taking notes as I went! Wasting time alt-tabbing between the game and my notepad.
So just imagine the kind of leveling speed you can get without all those hinderances ;)

All in all, I'm extremely happy and impressed with the our Leveling Addon, and I can't wait to do a speed run with a new character once it's all finished.

I'll post my results of course once I'm there, so stay tuned (list of our feeds, twitter, facebook, newsletter, etc) for more leveling guides and addon updates!

Archaeology 1-525 Powerleveling Guide

Archaeology 1-525 Powerleveling Guide: "
Leveling Archaeology to 525 is very straight forward but brace yourself as it will take time and plenty of patience. So let's get started... here is a simple guide on how to powerlevel your Archaeology from 1 to 525 which will be updated as the game progresses.
Levels 1-100
To start off, head to your faction's Archaeology trainer in either Stormwind or Orgrimmar (there's also one in Dalaran). You will need to be at least level 20 to get started. Now you've gained two abilities, Survey and Archaeology. For the first 100 levels we'll only use Survey and avoid Archaeology. Let's start by heading to our first digsite. To find one, open up your map and look for shovel icons.

Once you arrive at a digsite, use your Survey ability and your character will survey the site and determine the location and distance the artifact is away from your current location. The scope will point in the direction of the artifact and the color of the light will tell you if it's very close (green), near by (yellow) or far away (red).

The moment you find and receive the artifact you will gain one level. You can survey each digsite 3 times and you will always have 4 digsites available per continent. Continue surveying until level 100. Try to avoid completing artifacts until you've reached level 100 since you will no longer be able to level up by surveying after level 100.
Levels 100-525
Once you're level 100, you're done leveling by finding artifacts (although you'll need finding artifacts). Now you should complete your artifacts by solving them. You can do this by using your Archaeology ability and selecting 'Solve' where you have enough artifacts to do so. This will give you 5 levels per completed artifact as well as a novelty item, often worth a few silver or gold to a vendor. As you reach higher levels and solve better artifacts there are novelty items, Bind on Equip and even Bind on Account items available from Archaeology.

Guild Achievements No Longer Reward Guild XP

Guild Achievements No Longer Reward Guild XP: "Nethaera posted on the official forums a little while ago to let us know that guild achievements no longer reward guild experience.

This is a pretty significant nerf, since guild experience is capped on a daily basis—and up until recently, guild achievements were able to reward experience bonuses above and beyond the daily cap.

It looks like the result of this was that guilds were leveling a lot faster than Blizzard intended. See the the full post after the break.

Remember: if you have any questions about the Guild Advancement system, you can find our complete guide here!

Cataclysm Launch Event Gallery

Cataclysm Launch Event Gallery: "So I'm home from the Cataclysm Launch Event!

it was a great time last night, lots of people there. One person said there were over 9000—but I realized later that may have been a joke. I even saw a lot of people who I had seen two years ago at the Wrath release event—I even ran into John Finch, the guy who was first in line last year. He said he'd arrived 48 hours before, and was still only 20th in line.

Once again, I want to thank Blizzard for NOT being the kind of company who tries to create buzz by not having enough copies of the game at launch. I wasn't there until about 7pm, and I still got a Collector's Edition. :)

This whole process has been kind of nostalgic for me, because for those of you who've been with us for a while, you may know that our discussion and picture gallery of the original Wrath launch event two years ago was actually our very first set of blog posts. So with that in mind, I leave you now as I left you then, with the most important part of the whole process:

I've got my copy. Where's yours?

Check after the break for photos from the event!

Farming Savage Leather & Target Mobs

Farming Savage Leather & Target Mobs: "
Savage Leather and Deepsea Scales, which are both very widely used mats for crafting Cataclysm's Leatherworking items. Well in Wetlands / Menethil Harbour, near the docks is several sharks named Harbor Shredfin of level 22 range which you can skin and apparently they have semi decent droprate while skinning for Savage Leather and Deepsea Scales.

Another even better spot if you bring along a skinner friend is in Eastern Plaguelands killing and skinning Landlocked Grouper. I went and tested out this spot with a friend, we noticed this spot has a forced spawn between the 2 sides of the bridge. So there is ALWAYS mobs to kill almost instantaneously.

As mentioned, this spot actually works a lot faster then the Menethil Harbour spot IF you have a skinner friend doing the other side of the bridge. You will Always have a mob in range to kill and few others to skin. Infact we were having problems managing to actually skin all the mobs we killed.

Other notable mobs that can be skinned for Savage Leather are:

Wetlands [Skinning Skill required: 105 - 115]

Thousand Needles [Skinning Skill required: 200 - 215]

Cataclysm: New Dungeons & Raids Preview

Cataclysm: New Dungeons & Raids Preview: "We recently previewed the upcoming Cataclysm zones, where we showed off the awesome new zones players will be able to experience in less than a week. We've not only got awesome zones such as Uldum, Kezan and Vashj'ir to look forward to, but many of these new zones feature new dungeons and raids as well! Cataclysm will ship with eight new dungeons, two upgraded Heroic versions of classic dungeons, and four new raids (with more being released in later patches). These dungeons will (of course) feature both normal and heroic versions, with raid encounters offering unlockable encounter-specific difficulty toggling. These raids will support the Flexible Lock System (detailed here, as well as in our Cataclysm Guide), allowing players to adjust raid sizing as necessary.

We've already seen quite a bit of new dungeon loot courtesy of the Cataclysm Beta, and there are many new items which can be purchased from vendors (including Tier 11 pieces!) using the new Justice Points and Valor Points currencies. Thankfully, Blizzard gave us a peek at how many points we can plan on earning in these upcoming dungeons and raids!

Dungeons
Cataclysm Heroic dungeon boss - Justice Points
Cataclysm Daily Normal dungeon - Justice Points
Cataclysm Daily Heroic dungeon - Valor Points

Raids
Cataclysm 10-player raid boss - Valor Points
Cataclysm 25-player raid boss - Valor Points

Pull Mobs Up to 150 Yards Away Exploit

Pull Mobs Up to 150 Yards Away Exploit: "
This is a very useful and new exploit whereby you can pull mobs or bosses from 10 yards to a massive 150 yards away. What is need is the quest item [Enohar's Explosive Arrow] provided for the newly created quest (sadly Alliance only) Curtail the Darktail from Enohar Thunderbrew in Blasted Lands can be used on any target, off the GCD.

- Has a .5 second cast time, so it cannot be used during other casts, but it can be used while moving. Has a minimum range of 15 yards, and maximum of 150.
- Provides no threat, or damage. Does not tag mobs.
- Places you and the target in combat.
- Does not require line of sight.
- Will flag you for pvp if using against a pvp target.

Some useful uses I have found after some testing:
- Pull anything from farther than the range of your skills. Does not tag the mob, however - you must still use a typical attack that will tag the mob for loot/credit. As it does not require line of site, I have pulled mobs and bosses from around corners in various dungeons.
- Keep players in combat, so they cannot stealth or use mounts.
- Kite mobs without damaging them.
